Checklist of Pūjā items required:
- Bell (Ghaṇṭā)
- Ārati plate / Ekārati / Pancārati deepa
- Pancapātra uddharaṇe - Pooja tumbler and spoon – 1 set per person performing pūjā
- Copper / Brass / Silver plates or trays for keeping items – 5 nos
- Brass / Silver lamp (Dīpa / Kuttuviḷakku) for worshipping – Place it on a raised platform / stool, fill with oil and place 2 cotton wicks. Decorate the lamp with Candana and Kuṅkuma
- Seat for the person performing worship – Wooden plank / Pūjā Mat
- Coins for offering – 2 nos
- Pure water – fill the Pancapātra with water and have some extra available in a vessel
- Haridrā (Turmeric) 25g – in a small cup
- Kuṅkuma (Kumkum) 25g – in a small cup
- Candana (Sandal powder) – 2 teaspoons in a small cup dissolved in a few drops of water to make a paste
- Akṣata (Take 50g Raw rice, add a tsp of Ghee and a tsp of Turmeric and mix well. Take the prepared Akṣata in a small cup)
- Cotton wicks – 10. Soak in ghee/oil beforehand.
- Oil for lamp – 50ml
- Camphor – 5nos
- Agarbatti (Incense sticks) / Dhoop – 2nos
- Agarbatti stand (can be substituted by a banana/rice in a small tumbler)
- Matchbox
Ingredients for offering (optional, can be chosen as per availability, can be substituted by akṣata in case it is not available)
- Coconut – 1
- Betel leaves – 4nos
- Betel nuts – 4 pieces / 2 small packets
- Fruits – Dry or Fresh fruits as per availability
- Flowers – Tied garlands and untied flowers as per availability
- Tulasī – a few leaves
- Pañcāmṛta snāna items - Milk, Curd, Honey, Ghee, Fruits (can be mixed and taken in a small bowl. A small quantity of honey / honey-ghee / honey-curd mixture can be taken separately for Madhuparka).
- Cotton cloth/blouse piece
- Upavīta (sacred thread)
- Bangles / other auspicious ornaments
- Naivedya – Śālyanna / Pāyasa / other dishes can be prepared as per family tradition. Any available dry/fresh fruits/jaggery/sugar crystals can also be used. The most important is to perform the pūjā with śraddhā and bhakti.
